« Tuesday's choice | Main | Lowell re-signed (or, what a difference a hyphen can make) »

Doesn't quite have the same ring as "El pueblo! Unido! Jamas sera vencido!"

Naturally, my school is all abuzz about the screenwriter's strike. As the grand-daughter of a ironworker, I'm a little familiar with the issues around union politics; as the amused witness of many arguments between my mother and the aforementioned ironworker, I don't take sides.

That said, here's what I find ridiculous about the writer's strike (besides, well, this):

Item 1: "In Manhattan, about 75 picketers (including Tina Fey, the creator of “30 Rock” on NBC) set up a line in Rockefeller Center and chanted: 'No money? No downloads. No downloads? No peace.'"

Item 2: "They laid in bottled water by the case, and came equipped with BlackBerrys and backpacks for what promised to be a long day in the sun once the morning fog burned off. "

BlackBerry: The must-have accessory for this labor action season.

Comments

What I want to know is why, if they're writers, their picket signs aren't wittier.
