Where my girls at?

Graduate school has pretty much sucked the fun out of life.

That's a bit melodramatic. More accurately, it has temporarily ruined my ability to tune out and enjoy things like television and video games; I suddenly see subtext and dominant ideology and hegemony everywhere. This explains why I scowled through a class presentation of Sissyfight 2000, a game in which schoolgirls try to ruin each other's self-esteem by taunting, teasing, and scratching. It's probably pretty fun to play when you're not all huffy about the perpetuation of gender stereotypes.

However, there are benefits, as Science Daily recently discovered.

An excerpt from the Sissyfight class discussion:

Professor: "So we just earned two points for tattling..."
Male student: "What happens when you 'tease' another girl?"
Me: "She develops an eating disorder."
