On the bright side, at least it doesn't have to share

In preparation for my move, I've been obsessively comparing my current city of residence and my future one. I've always linguistically and philosophically collapsed the two into an imaginary "Somerbridge," but I'm working on distinguishing one community from the other.

For instance, I discovered today Cambridge has eight sister cities. Eight! That's a lot of siblings. Thanksgiving must be a horror show.

Somerville has... none. Not only that, but it's the only city on the Sister Cities International Massachusetts page with a blank space where a sister city should be. Basically, this is YMCA summer camp, and everyone was just told to find a buddy, and while all kinds of average cities elbow each other out of the way to stand next to popular Cambridge, Somerville is left standing on the pool deck, in its floaties, pitifully alone.

This is a point in Somerville's favor. I like living in a city that I identify with.
